Reem Hazboun Tasyakan is a Palestinian American author and scholar. She writes fiction and poetry that often draws from her travels and celebrates her Arab heritage. Her writing has appeared in Eclectica, Kweli, Panorama, and Grist.
Her debut novel is forthcoming in 2027 with Broken Tribe Press. Set between 2002-2005 in Tucson, Arizona and Damascus, Syria, Halo of the Moon on Earth is a portrait of a young Palestinian American woman healing from an abusive past and navigating a relationship with a Syrian man named Safeer. The limits of their bond are tested amid unraveling family secrets and growing cultural pressures, forging Hala's awakening to her authentic self. Reem holds a PhD in Literature from UCSD, and has taught courses in Arab literature, global history, and creative writing. She is originally from Fulton, New York. She has called both Southern Arizona and Southern California home, but feels perpetually drawn to the tall trees, plentiful waters, and changing seasons of the American Northeast. |
